Peter Werner, born January 17, 1947 in New York City, New York, USA, is a motion picture director and producer. He was an episodic director for the first season of Boomtown. He helmed the episodes "Insured by Smith & Wesson" and "The David McNorris Show".

He worked with Boomtown creator Graham Yost on his subsequent series Raines and Justified. He has also worked on Medium, Ghost Whisperer, and Moonlighting. He also directed the films Mama Flora's Family (1998), The '70s (2000), Gracie's Choice: A Story of Love (2004), and Mom at Sixteen (2005).

Biography[]

Earlier career[]

In 1977, Werner won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for directing the short film In the Region of Ice. Since then he worked on primarily directing television amassing a number of television film credits including Mama Flora's Family, Two Mothers for Zachary, Call Me Claus, Gracie's Choice, and Mom at Sixteen.

He directed episodes for A Different World, The Wonder Years, and Moonlighting. He also directed the films Mama Flora's Family (1998), and The '70s (2000).

Boomtown[]

He joined the crew of Boomtown as an episodic director for the first season in fall 2002. He helmed the seventh episode "Insured by Smith & Wesson" and the ninth episode "The David McNorris Show". The series was created by Graham Yost. The show was renewed for a second season but canceled while episodes were in production.

Later career[]

His later television series credits include Ghost Whisperer, Medium, Law & Order: Criminal Intent

He directed the films Gracie's Choice: A Story of Love (2004), and Mom at Sixteen (2005).

He worked with Boomtown creator Graham Yost again on his subsequent series Raines in 2007. Werner directed the episode "Reconstructing Alice". The show was canceled while still in production of its first season.

In 2010 he directed the Justified first season episode "Hatless". Yost was the show runner for the series.

In 2011 he returned to Justified to direct the second season episodes "The I of the Storm" and "Full Commitment".

In 2012 he returned to Justified for the third season. He directed the episodes "The Man Behind The Curtain" and "Watching the Detectives". The third season of Justified featured Boomtown stars Neal McDonough and Mykelti Williamson in prominent starring roles.

Personal Life[]

Werner was born on January 17th, 1947 in New York City, New York. Werner's younger brother is television producer Tom Werner. He was an early mentor and teacher to actress Vinessa Shaw. He is also a devout Buddhist, and the father of Lillie, Katharine and James Werner.
